5 Simple Ways to Change Your Life
People ask me all the time what they can do to improve their life. The answer can be multi-faceted, but it all boils down to one thing. And that’s action. The truth is far more of us know what we need to do better our lives, better ourselves, our relationships, our businesses. But we end up not doing them.
So I’m going to share five things that have had a major impact on my life. And I’m going to share how you can start making them habits today!
Develop a positive mental state. All the other things rely on this thing. It’s the keystone habit to develop a better life. Now I’m not saying that this alone is the key to your success, but it certainly helps! Our brain is incredibly powerful, and if we fill it with negative thoughts we tend to manifest that. Have you noticed that when one thing goes wrong, everything in life seems to go wrong? Well would it not stand to reason that if this is true, the inverse would also be true? Start keeping a negative self-talk record. Mark down and learn to be mindful when you notice negative thoughts pop up. Learn to train yourself to replace them with thoughts of gratitude. Focus on what’s going right in your life and you will be inviting more of that into your life!
Focus on one goal. This is the most powerful way of achieving your goals. You need energy and focus to complete goals-and when you set too many you spread yourself thin and end up achieving few or none. Set one goal for yourself and break it down into micro-goals. Once you achieve that goal, you can set another goal. I’m sure that those of you who are used to having 10+ goals at a time are a bit perplexed by this. However this does not mean you are an underachiever! It means you are learning to focus and use your energy more efficiently. You will see far greater results this way. I want to make a special note of ongoing goals-like exercise. This shouldn’t be a goal, it should be a habit you form. Goals should be measurable and you should be able to track your progress.
Learn to eliminate. You need to be able to identify the essential things in life and work. The things that are most important. The things you love. The things that are going to move you forward. Then get rid of everything else! This will help eliminate overwhelm and keep you hyper focused.
Build routines. Building a daily routine can make a huge difference in your life. I couldn’t do without my morning and evening routine. Having a morning routine helps you move into your day in a way that you are in control and proactive. It’s empowering and is something just for you. I can’t urge you enough to stop immediately checking your phone when you wake up! Build your morning routine out of things that reinforce your goals, desires and leave you feeling energized and ready to take on the day. A night routine is a great way to set boundaries and transition from work mode to wind down mode.
Kindness and gratitude. Kindness can be cultivated, and should be! I suggest being very mindful of the kindness you put out for the next 30 days. You’ll notice the whole world changes, the way people treat you changes. This can be as simple as doing one kind thing for someone everyday. Also be sure to be kind to people you encounter throughout your everyday. And work your way up to donating your time by volunteering.
